Now that libertarianism has been popularized by such high profile types as Ron and Rand Paul and Gary Johnson one might think that a better understanding of the philosophy has emerged.
One would be wrong.
Typical of the shallow thinking on the meaning of libertarianism is a recent Denver Post blog in which blogger Kurtis Lee thinks that it’s a case of “irony” that the Libertarian Party that helped a Colorado state senator into office now wants her out of office.
First, regardless of what Lee claims, the Libertarian Party of Colorado did nothing that “assured Sen. Evie Hudak another term at the state legislature.”
Hudak is a Democrat and ran as a Democrat last November while the Colorado LP ran its own candidate, Lloyd Sweeny.
Since the Libertarian’s vote total was greater than the difference between Hudak’s vote count and her Republican challenger Lee dredges up this old cliché from yesteryear’s political garbage dump to justify his claim that the libertarians helped Hudak get reelected:
